Islington council has introduced a surcharge for diesel vehicles during short stay parking, in an attempt to try discourage diesel drivers from entering the borough.
It’s reported the charge will be £2 per hour and will apply to all diesel fueled vehicles.
Islington’s executive member for environment and transport commented that “London is on the brink of an air quality emergency”, which has provoked the move.
Islington’s stance on diesel drivers could very well start a nationwide trend, which could force drivers to convert to electric vehicles sooner than expected, with the Government earmarking 2040 as the year all our vehicles will be electric.
